Arthrosamid® for Knee Arthritis: A Promising Solution for Long-Lasting Pain Relief

Knee arthritis, particularly osteoarthritis, is a leading cause of pain and mobility issues in adults. For those experiencing moderate to severe knee arthritis, Arthrosamid® presents an exciting treatment option, and with Olympic swimmer Sharron Davies championing it – recently describing the quick procedure, limited downtime, and how it has helped her feel more able to do the things she loves – it is becoming increasingly popular.

This innovative hydrogel injection offers longer-lasting relief than traditional treatments and aims to improve joint function by acting as a cushion within the knee.

Being the first clinic in Essex to offer the cutting-edge treatment of Arthrosamid® injections for knee arthritis last year, we are thrilled that our results are proving successful time and time again.  So far we haven’t had a patient return with zero response to the treatment, and everyone has had a 50-100% improvement at the 4 month mark post treatment.  One of our patients reported feeling the effects of the injection after just 4 weeks, with a 90% improvement in range of motion and no pain by the 16 week review, and another patient stated that she was still pain free at 9 months post treatment.

Our founder Mr Jon Handley-Collins (Doctor of Chiropractic and Injection Therapy) recently reported; “I’ve treated many patients with Arthrosamid® and have seen them experience significant reductions in pain, as well as improvements in their mobility, and overall quality of life.  In contrast to other treatments, Arthrosamid® appears to be offering patients long-lasting respite from the pain and immobility of knee osteoarthritis and, in many cases, avoiding or delaying the need for surgery. I believe it’s setting a real benchmark in the area of orthopaedics, offering hope and optimism to many of those living with this condition.”

So, what exactly is Arthrosamid® and why is it proving to be a successful therapy for knee arthritis?

Understanding Arthrosamid®

Arthrosamid® is a unique injection made primarily of polyacrylamide hydrogel, designed to integrate into the soft tissue of the knee joint. Unlike other common injections for knee arthritis, like corticosteroids or hyaluronic acid, Arthrosamid® doesn't rely solely on reducing inflammation or temporary lubrication. Instead, its hydrogel composition creates a cushioning effect, helping to absorb shock and alleviate pain over a much longer period.

This treatment is particularly beneficial for those with osteoarthritis, where cartilage degeneration causes pain and stiffness due to bone-on-bone friction. Arthrosamid® provides a non-surgical alternative that can delay or even eliminate the need for knee replacement surgery in some cases. It is indicated for all levels of knee arthritis - including severe bone on bone.

It is important to note that Arthrosamid® only has around 4 years of human data in the research but there is around 20 years of data in animal use.  Arthrosamid® is a single injection treatment and is actually classed as an implant device because it can not be broken down by the body once it is in the knee.  Because of this, and knowledge of how long it lasts in animal studies, we could speculate that the effects could last even longer.

How Arthrosamid® Works

The Arthrosamid® hydrogel is injected directly into the knee joint, where it bonds with the surrounding tissues. Once in place, the hydrogel creates a physical layer that absorbs pressure and reduces the friction between bones, which is the primary source of pain in osteoarthritis. Because it integrates with the joint’s soft tissue, it provides sustained relief as it remains within the joint over an extended period.

Benefits of Arthrosamid® for Knee Arthritis

Long-Lasting Pain Relief:

With pain relief proving to last up to 4 years (far exceeding that of corticosteroid injections, which typically last a few months) Arthrosamid® minimises the need for frequent injections, making it a convenient and sustainable option for managing knee arthritis pain.

Improved Mobility and Function:

By reducing pain and providing joint cushioning, Arthrosamid® helps patients regain lost mobility and engage in physical activities that were previously challenging.

Low Risk of Side Effects:

Arthrosamid® is well-tolerated in most patients, with fewer risks than some traditional injections. Unlike corticosteroids, it doesn’t have adverse effects on the joint tissues or the body’s immune system, making it a safer option for long-term use.

Potential to Delay Knee Replacement Surgery:

For patients considering knee replacement, Arthrosamid® offers a promising alternative that may postpone or even eliminate the need for surgery. This can provide years of relief without the lengthy recovery time or potential complications associated with surgical interventions.

Arthrosamid® represents a breakthrough in knee arthritis treatment, offering a longer-lasting, low-risk, and effective alternative for pain relief and joint function improvement. If you have moderate to severe knee arthritis and are looking for alternatives to surgery or repeated steroid injections, Arthrosamid® might be a suitable option.
