Leigh Injection Clinic becomes the first clinic in Essex to offer Arthrosamid for knee arthritis
After the banning of the use of PRP (Platelet rich plasma) by the MHRA in June, our toolbox of methods to assist with knee arthritis dwindled over night. We found it very effective for mild to moderate arthritis, along with our other options of cortisone and hyaluronic acid. Sometimes we would offer a combination of PRP with HA to get even better effects.
But nothing was really indicated for use with severe knee arthritis. Nothing really worked that well once the arthritis reached a certain point. Historically, if severe, we would advise that knee surgery was the only option going forwards. That was until we were introduced to Arthrosamid. This injectable is classed as an implant device because it can not be broken down by the body once it is in the knee. It’s indicated for all levels of knee arthritis, including bone on bone severe.
Arthrosamid is a cutting edge treatment that gives a new stepping stone before knee surgery. It only has around 3 years of human data in the research but there is around 20 years of data in animal use. Being a substance that can not be broken down, it lasts in the knee joint for years, giving long term relief from arthritis pain to the vast majority of people who have it done. The data suggests 80% of people will have a significant improvement.
Based on the data and current evidence, we decided to take on Arthrosamid as a treatment option for knee arthritis, being the only clinic that offers it in Essex at the moment. So far we have had very good results! I do an 8 week follow up for Arthrosamid patients and so far we have had no one return who have had zero response to the treatment. Everyone has had a 50-100% improvement at the 8 week mark post treatment. So we’re really pleased with the results and happy that patients are happy with their investment into their health.
